Looking for a quick and practical crochet project? This mini card holder pattern is perfect for storing credit cards, IDs, or business cards. With colorful stripes and a secure closure, it’s both functional and stylish. The entire project takes just a few hours to complete!
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Acrylic yarn in 2 colors (main color and accent color)
- Hook Size: 4.0mm
- Gauge: 18 stitches x 18 rows = 10cm x 10cm (4″ x 4″)
- Additional Supplies:
- Scissors
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Button or magnetic snap closure
- Small metal ring or clip for cord attachment
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- sl st = slip stitch
- fo = fasten off
Pattern Instructions
Foundation Row
- Ch 12 (or any even number for size adjustment)
- Sc in 3rd ch from hook and across
Round 1: Creating the Base
- Ch 3, turn. In the same stitch, work 2 dc
- Skip 2 stitches, then work 3 dc in next stitch, repeat until you reach the last stitch
- In the last stitch, work 9 dc (this creates the rounded corner)
- Continue working along the back side of the foundation chain
- Skip 2 stitches, work 3 dc in the third stitch, continue this pattern until the last chain
- In the last chain, work 6 dc (creates the second rounded corner)
Round 2: First Cluster Round
- Work a full round of 3 dc in each space between the previous dc clusters from the previous round
Rounds 3-7: Colorwork Pattern
- Round 3: Attach accent color. Alternate between accent and main color – work 3 dc in each space (alternating colors as you go 3dc in beige, 3dc in purple, repeat)
- Round 4: Work entirely with accent color – 3 dc in each space
- Round 5: Alternate colors again – 3 dc in each space using both main and accent colors
- Rounds 6-7: Switch to main color – work 2 rounds of 3 dc clusters in spaces
Final Rounds: Edging
- Rounds 8-9: Work 2 rounds of sc around the entire piece
- Sl st to join, fasten off, and weave in all ends
Assembly Instructions
Adding the Wrist Strap
- Make a Romanian cord or braided cord 4 cm longer than your wrist full circumference.
- Attach the cord to the edge of the card holder using a small metal ring or jump ring
- Secure with knots or by sewing through the crochet fabric
Creating the Closure
Option 1: Button Closure
- Ch 15 to create a button loop
- Attach the chain loop to the middle of one side of the card holder
- Sew a button on the opposite side, positioned to align with the loop
Option 2: Magnetic Snap
- Install a magnetic snap button on both sides of the opening
- This provides a more secure closure and easier access
